Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda on Sunday issued a strong warning against booth jamming, vote rigging and capturing ahead of the upcoming elections. During a visit to Bhangar police station, he instructed officers that any such allegations would be dealt with strictly and that all personnel must follow the guidelines laid down by the Election Commission.
The visit came as part of intensified security preparations after the announcement of the election schedule. According to officials, the Election Commission is closely monitoring law and order arrangements across the state, prompting senior police officers to conduct inspections of police stations and review security measures. Later, speaking at a press conference, Ajay Nanda said Kolkata Police is fully prepared to ensure peaceful and fair polling. He stated that checkpoints and vehicle searches are being conducted across several areas and joint patrols with central forces have been increased. He also confirmed that additional central forces are expected to arrive in the state ahead of voting.
Meanwhile, Presidency Range DIG Kankar Prasad Barui visited several police stations in the southern suburbs to review election preparedness. He inspected Narendrapur, Sonarpur and Baruipur police stations in South 24 Parganas and held meetings with officers regarding security arrangements. Barui said the inspections were aimed at ensuring all officers—from senior officials to home guards—remain prepared so that elections can be conducted in a fair and fearless manner in accordance with Election Commission guidelines.
